I grew up near a small Midwestern town in the 40’s and 50’s. We had just come out of World War II and were headed into Korea and there was a lot of cohesiveness in American society. There was morality in the country then. We were strong because the war had made us strong. Before, during, and after the war the movies were generally good. TV came along in the latter part of the 40’s and early 50’s and generated competition for the viewing audience. Both movies and TV found that violence, crime, and sex sold well. Many movies and TV programs were aimed in that direction.
This new direction was accepted and even enjoyed by many people because since the beginning of time there had been restrictions on morality and on what people could see and could do. When sex and violence came along in movies and TV it fulfilled a longing that had been suppressed. Most of the younger children were able to view it on TV. Lots of the today’s adults grew up with violence and sex on TV and don’t know any different. They think that is the accepted norm. Groups in Hollywood and elsewhere around the world were anxious to prosper financially with this new direction. Certain groups and individuals that control most of the material coming out of Hollywood were more interested in the money making than they were on the effects to the society of the nation. The situation is still the same today.
I don’t care how good a person you are, how moral and ethical you are, if you are constantly subjected to an environment of crime and violence or an environment of sex, eventually that environment is going to overpower your will power. Environment is stronger than will power. You are going to succumb to those thoughts. In your mind, since you are subjected to it over a period of time, your mind will start conjuring up vibrations of crime and sex. You may not actually commit a crime or become a sexual pervert but your consciousness will accept these things. Your vibrations then affect others and soon the whole nation or world has been converted to the subconscious thought of acceptance of crime, violence, and sex.
Many groups, among them the ACLU, homosexual organizations, and many stars in Hollywood, want to convince you that it’s OK to have these thoughts and to participate in this lifestyle because this is the lifestyle they lead and want to promote. They try to make everyone believe that since everyone does it, it must be all right. But that is not true; these actions are not acceptable. People do not determine what is proper, what is wrong. God determines this.
I have read the New Testament 5 times, the Bhagavad Gita 4 times, and I’m somewhat familiar with the Qur’an and nowhere do I see that crime, sex, violence, etc. is acceptable. Many would argue that these scriptures are outdated and modern times are different from the periods in which these books were written and society should move on to modern ideas. This is not true. These scriptures will always be authoritative.
God in His infinite wisdom is trying to guide the world back to morality, back to spirituality. He introduced AIDS to show us that drugs and indiscriminate sex are not acceptable. He introduced Muslim terrorists who are opposed to many of the things we now accept in this country: female superiority, drugs, alcohol, abortion, homosexuality, adultery. All this is put here to make us think, to reassess our values. Now we are threatened with a global recession or depression to bring us back to our core values. The world has become accustomed to a fast pace, one that is not in accordance with God’s wishes. Movies and TV have been a major factor.
All the things that are happening in the world that we consider bad are perhaps not so bad after all. If they are making us reevaluate our situation, our values, then they may be quite beneficial. In the present moment they may seem difficult, inappropriate, and unpleasant but if the end result is good, then there has to be a positive value for society.
Americans are a tremendously strong group. Sometimes it takes a major event or events to wake us up, to get us moving, but we arise to the occasion every time. Soon the sleeping giant within us will arise and take whatever actions are necessary to return us to a moral, spiritual path again. God bless America!
