Total freedom would be sinful. Freedom has to be constrained within certain limits and God determines those constraints through one of His religions. Christians and Jews were given the Ten Commandments; Hindus were given Yama and Niyama, etc. American laws for the most part are based on English law, and these laws are based on Christian values and morals. The laws of all nations are based on a code of ethics ascribed by some religion. Even an atheist knows that you shouldn’t go indiscriminately killing people.
I received an email the other day telling of the horrors awaiting Americans because of the Muslim threat and the writer stated that the militant Muslim fringe is jealous of America, of our freedoms and what we have attained.
This attitude expresses a rather shallow understanding of the motivation of the Islamic terrorists. If anything, just the opposite is true. The terrorist has been influenced by the teachings of the Imams to fear that the results of American freedom will pollute his religion. What results do I mean? The things that they fear are the things that we have become accustomed to over the last 50 years or so— the things they feel freedom has produced: female superiority, abortion, homosexuality, drugs, alcohol, adultery, emphasis on materialism, etc. These things have become such an integral part of our way of life that we don’t pay much attention any more and we definitely don’t see them as dangerous or bad. Our movies and our TV glamorize these things and we have been hypnotized into accepting them. We Americans have begun to believe that all is OK as long as everyone is doing it.
Terrorists and perhaps other Muslims don’t want these weaknesses to pollute their religion and their way of life. They have been told that the Qur’an says that all infidels (especially Christians and Jews) should be killed. They have been told that Islam must take over the world and anyone who is not Muslim must be converted to Muslim or destroyed. They have been told that to donate one’s life for the purpose of furthering the goals of their god is the only way to be totally assured of getting to heaven. The militant fringe believes that they must eliminate these threats to their way and America is the biggest source of these threats. This is their motivation then, not jealousy.
